Arthur Rubinstein (1887-1982) was certainly one of the most celebrated pianists of his era. He concertized extensively and reached an even vaster audience through a prodigious recording schedule and numerous appearances on television and film. On this DVD, Rubinstein is presented in an all-Chopin recital in an intimate home setting where he shares his perspectives on Chopin and his music. Also included are his two appearances on the all-star “Festival of Music” NBC specials dating from 1956 where he performed Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini in addition to the Chopin A-Flat Polonaise, the last offering a comparison to the 1950 performance of the work on the all-Chopin program.
