Unable to face her parents, she continues to try and convince them over the phone that things are going fine in America while striving to provide for herself and the baby she is carrying. In spite of her own problems, Mitsuko continues to care for others. Whether nursing a sickly landlady (Miyoko Inagawa) or encouraging her friend, Jiro (Ryo Ishibashi), to declare his feelings to a girl, Mitsuko retains her faith in life and hopes to be rewarded for her endeavours.
